Yoga Nidra: A Practice of Deep Rest
Welcome to Yoga Nidra, a guided practice of deep rest, relaxation and gentle self-exploration.
Often described as yogic sleep, Yoga Nidra invites you into a state between waking and sleeping, where the body can soften, the mind can settle and you can explore a different relationship with rest. There is nothing to achieve, nowhere to get to and absolutely no way to get it wrong.
During this guided recording, you'll be invited to find a comfortable position, settle into stillness and follow the gentle guidance of my voice. Through awareness of the body, the breath and the inner landscape of your experience, you'll be given space to slow down, release the pressure to do and simply be.
You don't need any previous experience of meditation or yoga, and you don't need to be particularly good at relaxing (yes, that's a thing we can put pressure on ourselves to do!). You might find your mind wandering, you might drift towards sleep, or you might remain aware throughout. All of these experiences are welcome.
This is your time. A little pocket of space in a busy world, an opportunity to turn your attention inwards and reconnect with yourself, without expectation or judgement.
A few things to know before you begin
Find somewhere quiet and comfortable where you won't be disturbed.
You can practise lying down or choose another supported position that feels right for your body.
Use blankets, cushions or anything else that helps you feel settled and supported.
Allow yourself to be guided, but remember that you are always in charge. You can change position, open your eyes, pause the recording or stop whenever you need to.
If you're listening during the day, you may wish to set a gentle alarm so you can return to your day when you're ready.
Yoga Nidra isn't about forcing your mind to be quiet or making a particular experience happen. It's an invitation to meet yourself exactly as you are, with curiosity, kindness and a little more space to breathe.
Make yourself comfortable, press play, and let yourself be guided.
