Ritual not routine

Here’s an excerpt from my own yoga journaling in 2010. For context I was two months into an intensive practice.

I can’t explain how it happened, but, in a mysterious and gentle way, my yoga teacher drew me out of my shell. It was a small… shy and fearful shell that I’d hidden in for years, I say this now, but at the time I wasn’t even aware until I’d shed it. It is the class, the postures, the breathing, the rhythm, and the teacher and the kula as they called it. The other students around me, talking before class, laughing or making a silly comment during practice.
It’s ritual, not routine Rosie.
Well done to all the regular yogis, living in ritual and sharing your journey with me. It means the world to be that teacher for you. When I wrote those words, I couldn’t have pictured what it would lead to.
I'll try to let you in more often with my own yoga journey in the hope that it inspires you to practice. It's never too late. Yoga doesn't mind how long you've been missing, she'll always welcome you hOMe.
With that in mind, for those struggling with ritual, showing up consistently, in love and curiosity for all parts of yourself, let this be the cosmic nudge you needed to return.
