Measuring the effects of yoga

With just a few more classes to take us to the end of 2023, I thought it would be nice to take a closer look at the benefits of yoga and meditation.

Studies show that a regular yoga practice can increase strength, improve flexibility, ease muscular tension, improve posture, lower stress levels and improve quality of sleep.

The data that can’t be captured are all the restless nights you may have had if you didn’t do yoga, the headaches you don’t get, the increase (and fluctuations) in your sense of humour, and optimism. Whilst the positive effects are vast, I’m actually not sure yoga can get all the credit it deserves, because we often forget who we were before we started a practice.

Our scientific age demands that we provide definitions, measurements, and statistics in order to be taken seriously. Yet most of the important things in life cannot be precisely defined or measured. Can we define or measure love, beauty, friendship, or kindness, for example?

Classes are Wednesday 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th November and 6th, 13th December. Click here for details.
