How to stay rooted when life gets stormy
Well, autumn has certainly entered the chat. The wind is howling, the leaves are flying, and if your nervous system feels like it's been caught in a weather warning, you're not alone.
In Ayurveda, autumn is vata season, bringing movement, change and a little unpredictability. And honestly, sometimes life feels a bit like the British weather; two seasons in one afternoon, with absolutely no prior notice.
Here's something yoga teaches us; we can witness the storm without becoming the storm. Not every passing thought needs our attention, not every emotion needs an immediate reaction, and not every wobble requires us to drop everything and fix it. Sometimes we can simply notice what's stirring, take a breath, and let it pass through without getting swept away.
This is the art of detachment; not becoming cold or disconnected, but learning to stay present with life without gripping quite so tightly to how we think it should be.
Like a tree, we can let our branches sway while keeping our roots firmly planted. We can acknowledge the chaos, find a little humour in the mess, and remember that we don't have to control the weather to find our footing.
So, as vata season rolls in, try bringing a little more warmth, routine and grounding into your days. A nourishing meal, a few minutes of breathing, or simply pausing before reacting can make all the difference.
