You don't need more yoga, you need a relationship to it

Let's be honest; How often do we make decisions based on how we feel in the moment, only to realise later that perhaps we weren't in the best frame of mind to make them?

We're tired, overwhelmed, distracted, stressed or just not feeling it. So we cancel our plans, put things off and tell ourselves we'll do it another time, when we have more energy or feel more motivated.

And yoga? Well, yoga often ends up on that list.

We decide we'll go when we fancy it, when our backs are aching, when life feels a bit too much or when we think we need to relax. But here's the thing: if you only come to yoga when you think you need it, you miss one of the most valuable parts of the practice.

Yoga isn't just about feeling better when things are difficult. It's about developing the awareness to witness yourself, week after week, and begin to recognise what's happening beneath the surface.

How are you moving through the world? What patterns are showing up? What changes when you give yourself the same 75 minutes each week to pause, breathe, move and pay attention?

You might arrive feeling brilliant one week and utterly frazzled the next. You might notice that your shoulders are creeping towards your ears, that your mind won't stop racing or that you're holding tension you hadn't even realised was there. Over time, you begin to recognise these things. You become more familiar with yourself.

And that takes consistency.

Choose your teacher. Choose your Wednesday.

There are SO many yoga options available now. Different teachers, different styles, endless online classes and new things to try every time you open your phone. It's brilliant that yoga is accessible in so many ways, but all that choice can make it surprisingly difficult to commit.

Traditional yoga has long valued the relationship between teacher and student. There's something important about choosing a teacher you connect with, allowing them to get to know you and giving yourself time to grow within that relationship. So, yes, I'm going to suggest that you choose me. Choose our Wednesday evening class. Make it part of your week.

Not because I'm suggesting I'm the only yoga teacher worth practising with, but because I believe there's real value in committing to a practice and a person rather than constantly searching for the next thing.

Sometimes, the kindest thing you can do for yourself is take the decision out of the equation. Wednesday is yoga night. It's in the diary. You show up, and you let the practice meet you where you are. You don't have to feel motivated. You don't have to be having a bad week. You don't even have to feel particularly interested in yoga that day. Just come.

Because the point isn't to arrive in need of fixing. It's to witness yourself, consistently, through all the different versions of you that show up.

A practice that grows with you

My Do Your OM Thing Yoga monthly membership gives you a weekly 75-minute community class, unlimited access to the class recordings throughout the month, and a monthly ebook exploring yoga and Ayurveda.

It's an opportunity to practise with familiar faces, build a relationship with me and explore teachings that extend beyond the mat. The recordings are there when you need flexibility, and the ebooks offer ideas and guidance to weave into everyday life.

But the real value isn't how many classes you manage to squeeze in or how much content you consume. It's the relationship you develop with your practice, and what you begin to notice when you keep coming back. You don't need more yoga options. You need the space to experience what happens when you stick with something.

So, here's your invitation; choose your Wednesday. Choose your practice. Choose to show up for yourself, even when the part of you making the decision would rather stay on the sofa.

You might be surprised by what you discover when you stop waiting until you feel like it.

I'd love to see you on the mat. Click here for class details.
